AGEC: France’s AGEC Law + Mains-Fed Hydration
In an effort to mitigate climate change, the AGEC law was passed in France in 2020.
The objective is to aid the shift from a linear economy to a circular economy; minimising waste and reusing resources where possible.
WHAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONS OF THIS LAW?
- Since Jan 2021: Premises open to the Public (ERP) can no longer distribute free water in plastic bottles
- From Jan 2022: Premises with 300 people or more will be required to have a mains-fed drinking fountain
- By 2024: the French government’s objective is to have a complete ban on all single use plastics; while being capable of recycling 100% of plastics
